Waves Method focuses on mastering the essential elements of swimming: Balance, Buoyancy, Motion, Breathing, and Rhythm. The basis of our teaching method is the Universal Float, which teaches students to remain safe and in control of the water. All our instructors understand the importance of accomplishing a comfortable and secure float before moving to any propulsion. Once we have elevated comfort levels, we gradually teach students more advanced movement and breathing. Eventually, instructors introduce essential stroke work until students learn Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly. Our methods are proven to provide our students with the tools they need to be successful in water, whether they are just starting or becoming competitive swimmers
Our learn-to-swim program is designed for infants two weeks to adults of any age. It's NEVER too late to learn! We understand that each person progresses at their individual rate and is unique in their abilities.
Waves specialize in private swim lessons. Our lessons are one on one, 30 minutes, once a week for six weeks.
Private swim lessons are open to swimmers of all ages. Offering Infant swim lessons, adult swim lessons, and American Red Cross Training.
We believe private lessons are the most productive way to learn a critical life skill, allowing each student to progress at their own pace in a low-risk, safe environment.
Waves' yearly swim schedule runs in 6-week sessions with Making Waves Weeks strategically placed in-between. Our schedule works around the Washoe County School district schedule. We do this because for our families. We don't want to lock our students into a year-round contract.
We want you to enjoy vacations and breaks. During our “off” weeks, we offer a drop-in lesson schedule. Waves clients can pick from a list of available lessons for the day and time that works for you without an ongoing commitment.*When you enroll in a session, that day and time is yours for the six (6) week session. Your time is automatically rolled to the next session, and payment is charged on registration day. Please let us know before the registration date if you would like to release your time.
To keep our intimate environment's integrity and accommodate our families, we limit the number of lessons to three private lessons in the pool at one time.
Here at Waves, we embrace and incorporate water safety with stroke refinement. We believe swim lessons, either in a group or in a private one on one setting, should focus on safety first, then skills. We also think there is no such thing as a "water safe" child. However, we know there are steps that we can take to educate and prepare for encounters with water such as pools, rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Did you know that 60% of the human population doesn’t know how to swim?
Learning to recognize and respect safe water practices, and make safe decisions around ALL types of water environments, is a critical life skill that should go hand in hand with learning to swim and could save a life. What makes us different is that we do this by incorporating new, unique skills and tools that simulate other bodies of water and conditions. We are passionate about what we do and cannot wait to share our love of water with you. Being comfortable in the water is fun and opens the door to other enjoyable activities! That is why we offer swim services to infants and adults.
We believe the more often you come, the faster you will see results. Lessons are scheduled for your convenience and can be as little as once a week up to seven days a week. However, once you sign up for a specific day and time, that will remain the same throughout the session. If you want to start slow, once or twice a week, that is fine. Many families can only fit one day a week, which works, but it takes longer to see results. Other families have short-term goals such as vacation and need faster results. If this is the case, scheduling as close together and often as possible is beneficial. We understand it needs to work for you and your family. If you would like to call, we will be happy to discuss it with you further. All lessons are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, with current students being able to enroll before new students. All classes scheduled must be paid at the time of scheduling.
Classes are offered on-site or at your location.
Take a water safety class and earn certification from the American Red Cross. Designed for individuals, swim coaches, lifeguards, and others who work or play on, in, or near water, our classes can help you stay safe and give you the skills to help others during times of crisis. Some of our current certification classes include Lifeguarding, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Basic Water Rescue, and Small Craft Safety.
